Maureen began her career over 30 years ago as a watercolorist specializing in house portrait commissions. She continues to do house portraits in oil and loves to paint interior vignettes of sunlit rooms. Her landscapes are more abstract than realistic and she enjoys doing still lifes.
She began painting florals in her watercolor compositions and eventually turned to oil and acrylic and discovered that they added a new dimension to her work She wanted to work in a larger format, enlarging and then cropping the images to give them impact and immediacy. The use of bold, brilliant colors and the dense composition of the canvas results in striking imagery. Lanza captures the lilting gesture of the flowers to create a buoyant, dancing effect. Her goal is to create a positive, exuberant mood in the viewer. Maureen returned to Ursuline College as an adult student and graduated with an art degree. She has taken additional classes at Cleveland Institute of Art, Orange Art Center, Valley Art Center and with individual artists in the area.
